River Valley Reformed Church began as a church plant of College Hill Reformed Church in Beaver Falls. Members from College Hill who resided in the Beaver Valley area began meeting as a small group for Bible studies in 2013. As the studies progressed, the idea of starting a church plant in the area started circulating.
River Valley Mission Church began meeting for evening worship in the fall of 2021, renting out the sanctuary of a local church in Beaver, with Pastor Barry York serving as Organizing Pastor. As the Lord continued to bless our ministry, discussions about planting a church in the area continued. We began meeting for our first Sunday morning services at a local restaurant that was undergoing renovations.
As the restaurant neared the end of its renovation period, we were informed that we would have to find a new place to meet. Through a community Bible study, one of our members learned that Calvary Baptist Church in Monaca was nearing the point of closing. In April of 2023, the saints of Calvary Baptist Church graciously decided to gift the church building and property to River Valley to continue the good gospel work they had been doing for many years.
River Valley Reformed Church was formally organized in January 2024. We then called Ian Gillies from Glasgow, Scotland to serve as pastor alongside Pastor York. Pastor Gillies was ordained and installed in November 2024 and we are thankful for how the Lord has been blessing our ministry in the community of Monaca and beyond. River Valley Reformed Church is part of a broader denomination, the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America. Our denomination is blessed with a rich heritage, originating with the Covenanter Societies in Scotland in the 17th Century. To learn more, visit the RPCNA website.
